60th Anniversary of PROCHEM S.A.

60th Anniversary of PROCHEM S.A.

Date of publication: 02.02.2007

For 60 years of its business activity PROCHEM has been involved in a few thousand investments, including 300 in Warsaw – initially as a design office, and later as an engineering office.

The office has executed investments in a comprehensive manner, starting with draft conceptual projects through turn-key investment completion. We were present at construction sites in Warsaw rebuilding from war damage, we rebuilt and thereafter designed new industrial plants all around Poland, we participated in most investments of the so-called “great chemistry”, contributing also to the construction of the largest plants of other branches of industry.

The beginning of the industrial construction design office was a design studio, established by architect Jan Pągowski in 1947. In 1948 the Central Office for Industrial Construction Studies and Designs was founded, and in 1963 the company changed its name to “PROCHEM” Design Office for Chemical Industry Construction. The office was the biggest one in the department and therefore it was appointed as the leading office for construction and installation projects in chemical industry plants and buildings. In 1971 the company name was altered again to “PROCHEM” Company for the Design and Development of Chemical Industry Investment Projects. 1991 saw a dawn of a new stage in the history of PROCHEM. In July that year Spółka Akcyjna PROCHEM (PROCHEM Joint-Stock Company) was established, and the employees became its shareholders. In 1994 the company was quoted at the Warsaw Stock Exchange for the first time. In 1995 PROCHEM acquired the ISO 9001 certificate as the first engineering company, and in 1996 PROCHEM commenced the building of its capital group.

The area of PROCHEM activity encompassed not only Poland, but also a number of countries in Europe and throughout the world. PROCHEM has been present in countries such as (in their historic names): German Democratic Republic, Federal Republic of Germany, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Soviet Union as well as China, Thailand, Iraq, Iran, United Arab Emirates, France, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Georgia and Turkmenistan.

The designs and investment executed by PROCHEM won recognition from state governments, state departments and technical organisations. During its 60 years of activity PROCHEM was granted 4 state awards, 50 ministry awards and in the most recent history of the company – over 20 prizes awarded by technical and business organisations.

PROCHEM renders services for the most recognised companies in Poland and abroad. As Polish market was opened for foreign companies, PROCHEM has specialised in servicing those who wish to locate their investment in Poland. Within a last dozen or so years the biggest customers have been: Procter & Gamble, Lever Poland, Henkel, Daewoo, Pepsi Food, Coca Cola, Shell, Pilkington Sandoglass, Delphi, Podravka, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Bridgestone, LG Philips LCD, Michelin, Toshiba, Vetco Aibel, Bauer Druck Publishing House and many others.

The most important Polish customers within the last years have been, among others: LOTOS Group, PKN Orlen, Rafineria Trzebinia, Naftobazy, ZCh Anwil, ZCh Police, Petrochemia Blachownia, POLFA Tarchomin, “Polish Airports” State Enterprise, Warsaw Agricultural University and many others.

PROCHEM has used the software that is a synonym of ICT in engineer’s work for two decades already. AutoCAD was first introduced to PROCHEM in 1986. The whole IT system in our company was based on the best practices from partner companies. We have implemented configurations applicable in the West – the tools, the software and the systems are the same. Recent years’ greatest challenge has been three-dimensional design. Currently we are, again, a leader in our industry. With approximately 10 licenses used on a constant basis, approximately 40 trained operators and 30 3D working stations, we are one of the largest engineering centres in Poland executing design in 3D technology.

On 30 June 1994 PROCHEM shares were quoted on the Warsaw Stock Exchange for the first time. PROCHEM was the 25th company to have its IPO at the WSE.

We are celebrating this anniversary in a company with great achievements, which is in a very good condition currently and has good perspective for further development.
